Shortly after Wiesbaden the first wine hills start to appear. We stopped for a night at a small touristy place, called Rüdesheim, on the right bank of the river. Many cruise ships stop here. The small cobblestone streets are full of souvenir shops and restaurants. To get away from the hustle and bustle we took a cable car to the top of the Kaiser Wilhelm look-out and got the first view over the Middle Rhein. From here on, it’s all wineries and castles.
“Vorsicht!” - “Beware!” The captain needs to mind the rocks and not listen to the “Loreley” singing. The saga tells that a mermaid, called Loreley, sits at the foot of the “Loreley” rock combing her long tresses and distracting helmsmen by sweet singing. Many a fisherman had his boat smashed here.
See Austin’s fierce concentration!
